Harry Austin - Solicitor
Harry is a Solicitor with a degree in Law from the University of the West of England . He joined Howard & Over in November 2014 and since then has undertaken a masters degree in law and business together with his training contract.
Harry undertakes commercial matters alongside Donna Baker, together with residential conveyancing.
Donna Baker - Partner & Solicitor
Donna Baker is a partner and head of the Property Department.
Donna qualified as a solicitor in September 2005 after completing her training contract with Foot Anstey. Donna has experience in a wide range of property transactions including business leases, business sales and purchases, commercial property sales and purchases, commercial mortgages, plot sales, small development agreements, and residential sales and purchases (particularly the high value and complex matters).
Donna is working from the Plymouth office specialising in commercial property.

Becky Bromfield - Associate Solicitor
Becky Bromfield joined Howard and Over in December 2015 after completing her training contract with Bright Solicitors and qualifying as a solicitor in November 2014.
Becky has experience in both residential and commercial property but currently specialises in residential property in the Plymouth office.
Becky frequently deals with both freehold and leasehold property, new builds, shared ownership, help to buy, leases, lease extensions, development, transfers of land, transfers of equity and re-mortgages.
Becky has lived in Plymouth all of her life and has lived in the Elburton/Plymstock area for the last 18 years.
Natalie Couling - Trainee Conveyancer
Natalie joined Howard and Over in November 2015 as a paralegal after working in the conveyancing department at Bond Dickinson LLP. Natalie is now in the process of training to be a licenced conveyancer.
Natalie assists with both freehold and leasehold property, new builds, shared ownership, help to buy, leases, lease extensions, development, transfers of land, transfers of equity and re-mortgages.
Natalie works from the Plymouth Office.

Catherine English - Trusts & Probate Practitioner
Catherine is a Graduate member of the Institute of Legal Executives and the Trust and Probate Practitioner in the firm.
Catherine has lived and worked in Plymouth all her life and has more than 30 years experience in the legal profession and 20 years experience in Private Client.
Prior to joining the firm Catherine worked at Bond Pearce (now Womble Bond Dickinson) for 18 years as a private client paralegal.
Catherine deals with all aspects of private client work including administration of estates/probate, preparation of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work.

Kim Hall - Legal Executive
Kim’s legal career began in Paignton in 1985 as an Office Junior for a Sole Practitioner. Kim became a Conveyancing Executive in 1989 and qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2002 and was made a Fellow in 2004. Kim was Head of Residential Conveyancing for a local Solicitors in the South Hams and moved to be a Branch Manager and Associate in the Teignbridge Area in 2015.
Kim was originally from North Yorkshire and moved to Devon in 1978. Kim has lived in the Torbay Area from 1978 to 2008 moving to Totnes where she still lives with her family and pets.
Kim has extensive experience in residential conveyancing including selling, buying, remortgaging, transfer of equity, buy to let, transfer of title and voluntary first registration.
Kim was formerly Chairman of the Devon Branch of CILEX and also Secretary to the South Hams Business League.
Outside of work Kim’s interests are attending live music concerts, going to the cinema and theatre and being involved in the dachshund community in South Devon.
Danielle Harris - Trainee Legal Executive
Danielle works alongside Jo in the Ivybridge office assisting in residential conveyancing matters including the purchase and sale of properties as well as transfers of equity.
Danielle initially joined Howard and Over under an apprenticeship scheme and after successfully completing a level three in business administration has now worked her way up to becoming a paralegal. Danielle has now started to train as a Legal Executive.

Jo Melvin - Associate Legal Executive
Jo is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and has worked in residential conveyancing for 30 years with half of that experience being post qualification. Jo joined Howard and Over in 2007 and works from the Ivybridge Office.
Jo heads up our Residential Conveyancing Department in Ivybridge.
Jo has a wealth of experience in all aspects of residential property including residential sales and purchases (all values), freehold and leasehold property, new builds, shared ownership, help to buy, leases, transfers of land, transfer of equity and remortgages, matrimonial transfers, easements and auction sales and purchases.
Jo has lived and worked in and around the South Hams area for the last 31 years and so has a huge local knowledge.

Jan Millar - Managing Partner & Solicitor
Jan is managing partner of Howard and Over.
Jan spent many years as a Higher Executive officer working for the Ministry of Defence before joining Howard and Over in 2004. She commenced her training contract in 2005 and qualified as a solicitor in 2007.
After qualification as a solicitor Jan concentrated on family work dealing with all aspects of family and children work.
In 2014 Jan assumed responsibility for providing practice management support to the firm. Her role includes quality, risk management, compliance, training and human resources.
Jan is a member of the Law Society's Law Management and Risk and Compliance Groups.

Katherine Millman - Partner & Solicitor
Katherine is a partner of the firm and the head of Howard and Over’s private client department. Katherine qualified as a solicitor in 2010 and joined Howard and Over in 2012, having previously worked at another practice in the South Hams.
Katherine works from the Ivybridge Office and deals with all aspects of private client work including the administration of estates/probate matters, dealing with the administration of trusts and the preparation of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Katherine has vast experience at dealing with agricultural matters, coming from an agricultural background herself, and is also able to advise clients on tax planning.
Katherine is a fully accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly. Solicitors for the Elderly is an independent, national organisation of lawyers who provide specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.

Reece Parsons - Paralegal
Reece is a paralegal, assisting Katherine Millman in the Ivybridge Office.
Reece graduated with a LLB (Hons) Law Degree from Exeter University. Reece has experience in dealing with contentious matters and now works in the private client department.
Sharon Pearce - Litigation Assistant/Paralegal
Sharon works within the litigation department in our Plymouth office as a Paralegal as well as assisting Tim Quinn and Stephen Smith.
Sharon deals with debt recovery matters together with recovering compensation for road traffic accidents using an online portal.
Sophia Pettit - Legal Executive
Sophia is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives having qualified in October 2010.
Sophia started as a Legal Assistant in the Private Client department at Wolferstans Solicitors in 2005 following completion of her Law Degree at the University of Plymouth. Sophia joined Howard & Over in March 2018 and is based at our Plympton Office.
Sophia is experienced in all aspects of Private Client work and in particular, Court of Protection applications.
Sophia is also currently a Trustee on The Inspire Multi Academy Trust (South West).
Tim Quinn - Partner & Solicitor
Tim is a partner of the firm, he qualified in 1990 and originally worked in the City of London where he specialised in professional negligence claims.
Since moving to Plymouth in 2001 Tim has expanded his area of work to include personal injury and clinical negligence claims, but is happy to advise on all aspects of civil litigation, including contested probates and boundary disputes.
Tim is often instructed on cases which have been transferred from another firm of solicitors where the client has been dissatisfied with the service they have received. With the increase in 'panel' solicitors appointed by insurance companies or trade unions, this is an expanding area of Tim's work.
Tim is a member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyer (APIL)
Tim's work has included:
- Recovering over £700,000 for a train driver who was injured at work when hit by an overhead power cable
- Obtaining a payment of over £30,000 from a national firm of accountants who had miscalculated their clients tax bill.
- Successfully defended a claim brought by a disgruntled family member who disputed his late father's will.
- Claiming £70,000 for a teacher who was assaulted by a violent pupil
- Securing an admission of liability from the NHS following a botched bowel operation that almost killed the patient
- Negotiating a settlement of over £90,000 for a client who was required to push heavy loads at work and damaged his back.
- Successfully suing a firm of solicitors who failed to carry out identity checks on their own client who was a fraudster in a conveyancing transaction
- Taking an appeal to the Privy Council on behalf of a Hong Kong business client

Stephen Smith - Solicitor
Stephen is a solicitor who specialises in dealing with dispute resolution – Construction, Property and Will disputes
Stephen deals with dispute resolution, primarily on issues relating to property and construction. He trained at a major commercial law firm in Bristol, qualifying as a solicitor in 2001. He went on to work for a number of firms in Bristol gaining experience in different aspects of legal work. He moved to Plymouth in 2015 when he joined Howard and Over LLP.
He has experience of dealing with disputes in the following areas:-
· Building and construction cases – He acts for parties in relation to disputes over building work and has experience in relation to adjudications. He has lectured on the topic of building contracts in higher education to aspiring engineers and architects.
· Property disputes - He has advised in relation to boundary disputes, and disputes relating to ownership of property or over the proceeds of sale.
· Contested probate – He has advised in relation to disputes over wills. He has acted for parties in both bringing, and seeking to defend against, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
· Commercial Landlord and Tenant – He has dealt with dilapidation claims and disputes relating to proposed assignees.
· General contractual disputes – He has advised on general contractual disputes.
He has experience of resolving disputes through negotiation, adjudication, mediation and litigation. He has previously acted for insurers and the architects and engineers that they insure; an NHS Trust; builders; those providing finance to construction projects and home owners.
Becky Turnock - Trainee Solicitor
Becky joined Howard & Over in 2018 as a paralegal and has since been granted a training contract with the firm. She has a history degree from Queen Mary University of London and has recently completed the Graduate Diploma in Law. Whilst undertaking her training contract, Becky is also completing the Legal Practice Course.
Becky works alongside Katherine Millman in the Private Client department in the Ivybridge office, assisting with the preparation of Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and the administration of estates in probate.
