Christmas blog (Dec)
Many things come to mind during the Christmas season - presents, family, parties, mulled wine and Christmas carols – but solicitors and why you might need them may not!
As we approach 2023, this time of year is often a time of reflection as well as beginning to look forward to our future and what it may hold. So, how does a solicitor and the support they can offer come into it?
One of the first things is moving home. This time of year might make you realise that you want a new start or you might need to downsize/upsize your current property. Having a conveyancing team working with you from the beginning makes the process much smoother as they can advise and handle any issues as they arise.
Another is personal injury. This covers a range of accidents that can occur over the festive season. Slips on icy pavements, skiing accidents, holiday accidents, accidents in work or in shops and accidents on public transport to name but a few. If you’ve had an accident that wasn’t your fault, a solicitor can offer you support during an upsetting time and help you get the compensation to guide you on the road to recovery.
And as you go into the New Year, you might want to revise your Will. Perhaps there was a family fallout over the Christmas holidays, you separated from your partner and need to protect yourself, or your circumstances have changed since you last wrote one and you need to update it. If you don’t have a Will, you need to understand that the law will set out what happens to your estate, including plans for your children if they are under 18. A Will can protect your children and protect your wishes after you have gone.
And finally, this might be the time of year that you need advice on disputes and legal action. It could be taking someone to court who owes you money or contesting a Will. When you
