Contractual Payment In Lieu Of Notice (PILON) and dismissal - the decision of Geys v Societe Generale has highlighted the need for employers to ensure that an employee is notified of the immediate termination of employment with payment of a PILON. The payment itself is insufficient to bring the employment relationship to an end. Contracts of employment should be reviewed to ensure that employers do not fall foul of such a clause.
